At Abbott Road Animal Hospital, we recommend HomeAgain anti-migration microchips for all of our patients.   Every microchip has an individual registration containing numbers & letters specific to each pet.  As small as a grain of rice, the microchip is implanted just under the skin between the animals shoulder blades.  The procedure is quick, much like a vaccine, does not require any anesthesia and can be done while you wait.  Once implanted, the microchip works immediately.  Unlike collars and tags that can fall off of your pet, be removed, or become difficult to read, a microchip provides permanent identification for the life of your pet.  In the event your pet becomes lost and is taken to a veterinarian or shelter, they will scan the microchip to read your pet’s unique ID code to retreive your information to reunite your pet with you.  A microchip is also used as proof of ownership in the case your pet is stolen.  If you are interested in having your pet microchipped, please call our office (716) 648-1340.
